Inland Lobster Feed 2019
Inland Lobster Feed
Negro Bar, Lake Natoma
August 3, 2018
Bring your family, friends, in-laws and out-laws to join us at Lake Natoma for our “Inland Lobster Feed” dive and potluck on Saturday August 3 at the Negro Bar picnic area.
Divers should plan on arriving at the Negro Bar picnic area before 8:30 because we want to be in our boats and ready to dive by 9:00. There will be a dive orientation on the beach before we “set sail”! There are a lot of big crayfish hiding under the rocks so bring a “Goody Bag” to grab the biggest and fastest ones you see. There are also a lot of lost “treasures” that fishermen and swimmers have dropped in the lake so we can also do a lake cleanup and scavenger hunt while we dive. I have found several working watches and a gold ring on previous dives so be sure to keep your eyes open. The deepest you can get is only about 40 feet, and there will be a current sweeping us along so you will probably have to hug the bottom to keep from drifting too fast. Visibility is typically about 6 to 10 feet and the water temperature has been in the low sixties on previous dives. With the higher water levels this year the temperature will probably be a little lower, and the visibility a little better. I’ll send a temperature update Friday evening before the event. If you went with me on the Channel islands dive trip this will be a good opportunity to flush that last bit of salt out of your gear
Non-divers should arrive anytime before 11:00. After we have made our dives we’ll gather in the picnic area for the rest of the fun. We will have prizes for crawdad races for the adults and the kids, so be sure to save your biggest and your fastest crawdad. We will also have a “Liars Contest” where we will spin yarns about the “treasures” that we find. During all the fun Brad and Corinne, with help from other volunteers, will be working the barbecues to cook up the crawdads, hamburgers, corn-on-the-cob to go with all the other delectables that are contributed to the potluck. Please bring $5.00 per adult (anyone who eats an adult portion) to contribute toward the soft drinks, hamburgers, hot dogs and corn on the cob. If you pay by check please make it out to me: “Jack Millard”. There will be a collection box on one of the tables. Please also bring a potluck dish, and don’t forget your dive gear, hats, chairs and sunscreen. If you have a folding table you might bring that, too. We have been able to grab enough of the park picnic tables for previous events, but they have been deteriorating every year and we might need to supplement with a few of our own. THANK YOU!!
If you have a boat and can help take divers out your help will be appreciated. Your launch fees will be refunded out of the $5.00 contributions.
