Great American River Clean-up 2021
Great American River Cleanup 2021
September 18, 2021
Dolphin Divers of Sacramento
In cooperation with the California Coastal Commission and the American River Parks Foundation, Dolphin Divers will hold our club annual American River Clean Up. On Saturday, the 18th of September, divers from Dolphin Divers of Sacramento, The Seahorses, and Outlaw Divers of Sacramento will raft down the river from the Sunrise Access to River Bend Park. Along the way, we will pull out all the trash we can. Cans, bottles, plastic, discarded fishing lures…..well, all of it comes out. With the junk we also come across GoPro cameras, wallets, watches, and assorted other treasures.
We leave the Sunrise Access about 9 am and head on down the river collecting stuff as we go. Divers will be in the water, but we do need boat handlers. Non-divers are welcome to attend and support the efforts of those under the water. A stop at the San Juan Rapids lets us take a short break to stretch our legs, have a snack, and allow divers to collect stuff from the river bottom. From the rapids we float down to River Bend Park, offload all our junk, and head on home.
Rafts are provided by American River Raft Rentals (ARRR). Carpooling from River Bend back to the Sunrise Access is part of the plan but ARRR does have a bus to help us out. If you have kids that need to earn some community service hours, have them bring along their forms and we can sign them off. Doesn’t get much better than rafting down the river and getting credit for it! The trip takes between 5 and 6 hours depending upon water flow rates and how fast the divers can work. Expect to have a sunny and warm day but we have been rained on before.
As we get closer to event time, I will send out more information. Yes, you will have fun!
