Once again, team “Fins for the Cure” has been formed and will be participating in this year’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Sacramento.

Race is on Saturday, May 7th – the day before Mother’s Day.

By following the link below you can do one of three things: you can join our team, make a team donation, or make a donation to a specific team member’s personal page.  This year’s team goal is to raise a minimum of $2,000 towards breast cancer research and breast cancer awareness – an easy goal to achieve especially if we can get 20+ team members to raise as little as $125 or $150 each!!!!

In 2010, three of our team members made the top 100 fundraisers of all 25,000 participants!  They earned over $1,000 each.  Congratulations Corinne, Renee and Carrie! Together the top 100 raised over $215,000 in 2010, which is equal to the amount needed to provide 958 mammograms and clinical breast exams for uninsured women! In other words, each of us raised enough money to potentially save the lives of 10 women.

If you cannot attend the Race on Race Day but still want to participate, you can also “Sleep in for the Cure” and help us raise funds that way. 

You do not need to be a “runner” to participate in the Race.  You have the option to choose between the 5K run/walk or the 1 mile fun run/walk, so no excuses not to join us. The majority of participants walk the 5k.

Please remember that 75% of the funds collected in Sacramento STAY in Sacramento and will be used for breast cancer research and to raise more breast cancer awareness.

The risk of a woman developing breast cancer in her life time has increased recently to 1 in 8 as compared to 1 in 11 in 1975; you read that correctly, 1 in 8!!!!  Ninety percent of these women have no family history of the disease. The two highest risk factors are being female and growing older.  Lastly, breast cancer not only affects women but also men.

 We all know several women within our dive community that have had or are currently battling breast cancer, thankfully, they are all survivors. You can be a part of making the list of survivors grow each and every year by joining our team or by donating to the team.  Don’t wait, act today!

Renee Viehmann from Premier Designs Jewelry and Fins for the Cure are teaming up to raise funds for the battle against breast cancer.  As soon as a date is set, I will make sure to share it with you. Renee Viehmann supports several fund raising efforts throughout the year with her jewelry sales by generously donating a percentage (10% of retail sales) of the evening’s sales towards a cause, in this case Fins for the Cure in their effort to find a cure against breast cancer.  If you would also like to hold a fundraiser for Fins for the Cure, please let us know.
