American River Cleanup 2015
Sept 19 is the day. Time to hit the American River and participate in a very worthwhile project. In coordination with the efforts of the California Coastal Commission, we will join with the American River Parks Foundation and pull out as much trash as we can from our very own American River. Starting at the Sunrise Bridge and ending at Riverbend Park, we will float and dive our way down the river removing everything that we can safely take with us. Each year, we pull out anywhere from 400 to 1,000 pounds of trash……and sometimes treasures from the bottom of the American River. Watches, cameras, phones, and lots of beer have been found along with all the aluminum, glass, and plastic that we gather up along our journey down the river.
We have 10 rafts donated to our cause from American River Raft Rentals. Last year we came very close to needing more boats than that. So, those wanting to have a secure seat in a raft will need to let me know that they want to be on our list. The Parkway Foundation will be promoting our efforts so we could end up with more divers and helpers than rafts. If you do not get on our list, you might be in the water the entire trip.
Please let me know if you want to help out with this very needed effort. For those that have never done this event before, let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks for your help.
